I’ve been keeping this blog for a few years now and every now and then I’m struck by some new inspiration. The result is that what I write about continues to change. I expect that’s always going to be the case, but sometimes I see it coming and sometimes I don’t. Recently, I came across the idea of evergreen notes (again) and can’t stop thinking about them.

Andy’s work has been inspiring since I first saw it, but I want to give it another go. He’s not open sourcing his note system (yet) as it’s still an experiment (though he has open sourced a note-link-janitor). But that doesn’t mean I can’t try to do something that will work for me (what I’m referring to as building a personal-wiki) - after all, as Julia Evans’ says, Build Impossible Software.

What’s this all mean? Well, a few things:

  • For one, I’ve always believed these notes were for myself. Now it’s just a bit more explicit.
  • I also believe that Shawn Wang (Swyx) is onto something with his “Learn In Public” philosophy (it’s why I write in public in the first place).
  • It also means that I’ll probably have more errors - if you see one, please feel free to let me know! It also means that notes will likely be less full baked. It’s not that I won’t still want to write tutorials / how-tos, etc., but that I’ll be showing even more of the steps along the way.
  • Hopefully, it will also mean more learning! Whether that’s because the notes are more focused, linked by concepts, or just that I’m freer to explore and make new connections.
